How to Do the Elevator Trick on a Yo-Yo

The yo-yo is a centuries-old toy consisting of two connected discs made of wood, plastic or other materials and string. Both adults and kids perform tricks using this popular toy. Tricks range from beginner-level sleeper tricks such as "walking the dog" to advanced competitive free-hand moves. The elevator is a beginner yo-yo trick in which the yo-yo gives the illusion of moving freely up and down on it's own string.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert the middle finger into the yo-yo string's loop. Wind the string tightly in the yo-yo, and cup the yo-yo in the hand. Throw the yo-yo away from the hand.

    • 2

Insert the forefinger of the second hand on the string between the throwing hand and the yo-yo. Lift the second hand above the first. Balance the yo-yo on the string.

    • 3

Move the lower hand down while moving the upper hand up. Continue to balance the yo-yo on the string as it moves upward. Move the hands towards each other to send the yo-yo back down the string.

    • 4

Throw the yo-yo slightly while removing the upper finger from the string. Catch the yo-yo in the bottom hand.
