Things You'll Need
Instructions
Pick up the string loop with your thumbs. Move your hands apart until the string is taut. Pick up the side of the string that is between your thumb and index finger with your pinky finger. Pull your hands apart to hold the string taut. The string now has a section strung across the palm of each hand.
Move your right hand over to your left and pick up the string draped across your left palm onto your index finger. Move your left hand over to the right and pick up the right palm string with your index finger. Pull your hands back to make the string taut, creating two X shapes with the string.
Move each thumb over the string between the index finger and the middle finger of the same hand and hook the string onto your thumb. Pull your hands apart to tighten the string. Remove the lower string from each thumb with the index finger on the opposite hand. Slip your pinky fingers out of the string. Lift your thumbs up while moving your hands apart to pull the string taut to make a cup-and-saucer shape with the string.
Examine the cup-and-saucer shape while you hold your hands with fingers pointed up. The cup-and-saucer string figure between your hands consists of three strands -- the bottom two are crossed over each other and the top string loops around the bottom two and is held by the thumb and index finger of both hands. Pick up the top string with your pinky finger and let go of the strings on your thumbs. Move your thumbs over the index finger strings and pick up the pinky finger strings. Drop the string on your right pinky finger only to make the star shape.
Practice making the star shape with the string. Go slowly through all of the steps and pick up your speed as you memorize how to weave the loops with your fingers. Once you have memorized all of the weaves, you will be able to make the star fast.
