Young Children
Avoid all stuffed animals. They cannot be used for hygienic reasons at many hospitals and institutions. Any toys that have been recalled by manufacturers should also be avoided. Donate basic toys like blocks, toy vehicles and toy animals. If a toy requires batteries, attach those to the package.
Young Boys
Action figures, toy cars and play sets that accompany such items are always appreciated. Toys for Tots will not accept toy guns or other toys that are clearly based on weapons.
Young Girls
Traditional gifts for girls include dolls and toys that can be used to play house. While kitchen playsets are a good gift, the Toys for Tots will not take items that contain actual food or anything perishable.
Gender Neutral Toys
All toys donated to the program are sorted into groups for girls or boys, but the group will accept gender neutral toys. Those gifts would include basic sports equipment like basketballs, soccer balls and jump ropes. Arts and craft kits and self-contained games are also appreciated.
Teens
Toys for Tots does not limit its gifts to the very young children. It will also accept board games, sporting equipment, handheld video games and craft kits for teenagers.
Other Donations
According to the Toys for Tots website, the organization will also accept financial donations. It says 96 percent of all donations goes to toys, books and other gifts for children. Donations can be through PayPal, eBay, mail or directly online through credit cards. It also allows visitors to make donations "in memory or tribute."
