How to Find a Leak in a Helium Balloon

A leak in a helium balloon can be difficult to find because of the size of the hole or the size of the balloon. Children's balloons never last long, but patching holes can preserve the life left in one.

  • Bathtub or sink
  • Water
  • Soap

Instructions

      Fill a sink or tub with water. Immerse the balloon and look for bubbles caused by the leak in the balloon.

      Mix hand soap or dish soap with an equivalent amount of water to create a soap film.

      Wipe the soap film over sections of the balloon. Watch for bubbles to form at the leak or leaks.
