How to Throw an Aerobie Boomerang

Boomerangs have come a long way since the days when Australian aborigines used them to kill kangaroos and wild animals. Now thrown for fun, boomerangs come in different shapes and are made from lighter materials like rubber and plastic, rather than wood. Designed by Aerobie, the Orbiter Boomerang blends a triangular design with a bright colored, soft rubber edge. The high-performance sports toy is designed to fly in a 90-foot diameter circle, though it will take most people a while to perfect the throwing technique.

Instructions

    • 1

Hold one corner of the boomerang firmly with the printed side facing you. Raise your arm so the boomerang is high in front of your right shoulder and position your index finger in front of the corner.

    • 2

Angle the Aerobie boomerang 30 degrees down and to the right from the high vertical position.

    • 3

Continue to hold the boomerang on a 30-degree tilt and aim it towards the ground about 100 feet ahead of you.

    • 4

Release your grip when the boomerang is at eye level and flick your index finger towards you at the very last moment to generate topspin.

    • 5

Observe the flight path of the boomerang carefully and try and catch it between the palms of your hand as it flies back towards you.

    • 6

Adjust your stance, throwing and release style until you create the perfect throw.
