Things You'll Need
Instructions
Hold the boomerang approximately one inch from either end between the thumb and index finger or clutch the end in the palm of your dominant hand. You may use either technique depending on your personal comfort. Both grips use the same throwing technique. Boomerangs have a shape like a letter "V." Hold the boomerang so the bottom point of the "V" points back at you, and the upper points of the "V" align vertically with the ground.
Stand facing the wind at approximately 45 degrees to the direction of the wind with your non-throwing side facing the wind.
Set your elevation angle for release. This angle refers to the point in your throw at which you release the boomerang measured in degrees above the horizon. Choose an angle between level with the horizon to 45 degrees above the horizon.
Tilt the boomerang sideways approximately 10-30 degrees toward the direction of your throwing side. Use an angle closer to 10 degrees in windy conditions.
Check your grip and the angles previously set. Pull back your arm, from the shoulder, step forward with the foot opposite your throwing side, bring your arm forward and snap the wrist as you release. Adjust the angles and the strength of your throw until you find the optimal combination to return the boomerang to you.
