How to Clean a Dollhouse

Whether an elaborate Victorian three-story mansion with handcrafted wood furniture only for display or another generic play house off the toy manufacture's assembly line, all dollhouses have one problem in common: they collect dust everywhere. Dust accumulates in the drawers of the miniature dresser and on the floors of the attic. While you may not see dust in a child's dollhouse, you may also not see the microscopic germs from sticky fingers and dollies that spent the day outside in the real grass and dirt. In this case, cleaning a dollhouse is not just about dusting, but also disinfecting for your child's health.

Instructions

  1. The House

    • 1

Remove all the furniture, dolls and decor from the dollhouse.

    • 2

Wipe down plastic walls, floors and ceilings with a damp, soapy rag. Wipe down the house again with a clean, wet rag. Dry with a towel.

    • 3

Polish a wood structure with a rag and a small amount of wood furniture polish. Pay special attention to the crevices where the walls and floors meet. Let air dry.

    • 4

Dust a cardboard dollhouse with a feather duster.

    • 5

Wipe down glass windows with window spray and a small rag, but do not spray the product directly onto the windows as it may discolor the surrounding wood or plastic walls.

    The Furniture and Dolls

    • 6

Put plastic furniture and dolls in a bowl of warm water and antibacterial soap or warm water and mild dish soap. Rub away any grime with a rag. Rinse with fresh water and dry.

    • 7

Place a small rag over your index finger. Apply wood polish to the tip of the rag on your finger. Polish the wood furniture using your fingertip rag.

    • 8

Wash fabric dolls or the dolls' fabric clothes with soap and water. Read the label for further care instructions.
