Temporary Transfer Tattoos
Temporary transfer tattoos are an inexpensive washable tattoo choice for parents. Typically, temporary transfer tattoos consist of an image printed on the backside of a thin paper. As water is gently applied to the paper after it has been pressed against the skin, the image is transferred onto the skin. Once the paper is peeled away, children are left with a colorful image that will last approximately three to five days, if not purposely washed off sooner.
Henna Tattoos
Henna tattoos are another safe option for temporary children's body art. Originally performed as a South Asian tradition, henna tattoos consist of designs drawn on the body with a paste created from the leaves of the Henna plant. Professionally drawn henna tattoos can range from simple symbols to intricate designs and will typically stay on the skin for a few days to a few weeks, depending on the frequency and vigor of washing.
Airbrush Tattoos
Airbrush tattoos offer a real-life tattoo look that's safe for children and easy to remove. To complete an airbrush tattoo, artists press a stencil of the tattoo against the arm of the child. Once the stencil is in place, airbrushes filled with a skin-safe paint are used to fill in the open areas and create a realistic tattoo look. When the stencil is removed, children are left with a temporary tattoo that will remain on the skin for one to five days.
Marker Tattoos
Washable markers provide an inexpensive, quick way for children to sport a temporary tattoo. Using a children's washable marker, designs can be drawn on any part of the body and easily washed away using mild soap and warm water. However, if you choose to use this method, it may be important to lay down ground rules for the use of markers in tattoo creation to limit children's temptation to go overboard.
