How to Make Your Own Robotica

"Robotica" was a TV show that ran on the Discovery Channel in 2001 and 2002. This "survival of the fittest" game show pitted robotic cars against one another. The robots raced and attacked different courses in different challenges. You can make a "Robotica" style robot of your own with the components of an old RC car. All the tools needed are available on an RC car for you to build a combat robot.

Things You'll Need

Old RC device (RC car)
Screwdriver
Scissors
Wheeled base
Thin metal

Instructions

  Remove the outer shell of the RC device. You will have to unscrew the RC component with a screwdriver.

  Remove the servos, battery and receivers from the RC device. The battery will power your RC device. The servos are the pieces that will move your robot. The receivers transmits the signal back to your remote.

  Cut a velcro strip a few inches long. Glue it in the top center of the base.

  Connect the receiver to the velcro strip. Make sure that it is pushed down firmly enough that it will not move around.

  Reconnect the battery and servos to the receiver by way of the receiver's connection wires.

  Add a weapon to your robot. The easiest style of weapon is a battering ram. Glue a large piece of thin metal to the front of the base. You can use the battering ram to push opponents into dangerous traps or to make them flip upside down.
