Play Tents for a Kid's Room

Play tents in kids' rooms lets them play house in their own little environment. Kids can use the play tents to pretend to go camping, build a fort, or relax in their own little home. Play tents can be made with materials in your home. To create a simple play tent, use old sheets in your home. This simple idea provides your children with room for imagination and play in their own space.
  1. Make a Play Tent

    • Drape a sheet over the back of your couch and pull it forward a little. It will create a triangular space big enough for you and your child. Secure the sheet with books on the corners.

If it begins to sag, pull it taut again by tucking the sheet into the couch or adjusting the book anchors.

    Reading Tent Activity

    • Plan an activity hour for your children in the tent. Let them bring their favorite books inside the tent and read during their planned activity hour. A child will enjoy having his own space reading his favorite book.

Add pillows for decoration inside the tent. If it will be used at night, bring some flashlights to use inside the tent.

    Go Camping

    • Plan a camping trip with your child and the tent. You will create some fish and catch them while you are camping. Create the fish by cutting fish shapes from construction paper and taping a small magnet on each fish.

Make a fishing pole using a string tied to a stick. Attach a magnet to the end of the string. Scatter the fish in your pretend lake near the couch. Get a small pan from the kitchen to cook the fish near the tent.

Go fishing by casting the line and using the magnet to catch the fish. Place the fish in the pan and pretend to cook your fish. Pretend to eat the fish once they are cooked.

    Camp With Your Child

    • Create another tent across the room from your child. Decorate your tent with pillows. Create a border between the tents using old sheets. You will create a river between the two tents using the sheets.

During this game, explain that you are not allowed to cross the river. If you share items from the tent, they must be exchanged over the river.

Ask the child to share some of the items from the tent. Have her pass the item over the river and see how well she is willing to share her items during this exercise.
