How to Make an Automatic Ball Washer

Automatic ball washers are used for activities where the ball might face nature or another messy situation. For example, the balls used in beer pong can become especially dirty after landing in cups filled with beer. Over time, if not properly cleaned, the balls will become sticky and develop an odor. Rather than washing them completely by hand, it can save time and be more efficient to have some automatic process that can get the job done for you.

Things You'll Need

  • Table (used for your beer pong games)
  • Electric drill
  • Hole saw
  • Jigsaw
  • PVC pipe (90-degree elbow at one of the ends)
  • Screws
  • Brackets
  • Fountain pump
  • Tubing
  • Tray

Instructions

    • 1

Cut a hole in your table that is large enough to fit your PVC pipe. Make the cut at the right corner of the table with a jigsaw.

    • 2

Cut a hole in the left corner of your table with a jigsaw. Cut this hole to the same size as your tray.

    • 3

Drill a hole in the elbow of the PVC pipe. The hole should be big enough to allow your tubing to fit.

    • 4

Attach the PVC pipe on the underside of the table below the hole on the right side. Connect the piping to the table with brackets secured in place with screws to the table. Do not block the hole that you previously drilled in the pipe.

    • 5

Cut a hole in tray with a jigsaw. The hole should be large enough to fit the PVC pipe.

    • 6

Insert the straight end with no elbow into the hole in the tray.

    • 7

Connect the tray to the left side of the table right under the hole you previously created. Secure the tray in place with brackets and screws.

    • 8

Slide on end of the tubing over the nozzle of the fountain pump. Insert the remaining end into the hole on the side of the PVC pipe elbow.

    • 9

Place the fountain pump inside the tray that is secured to the underside of the table.

    • 10

Seal the area around the tubing in the PVC pipe with PVC glue. Spread a thin bead around the perimeter of the hole.

    • 11

Fill the tray with enough water to cover the entire fountain pump.

    • 12

Plug the power cord of the fountain pump into an electrical outlet.
