How to Create a Treasure Map with Lights, Markers or Candles
Decide if you want your treasure map to be visible or invisible. Make a treasure map with invisible ink by brushing your design onto paper with a paintbrush and lemon juice. Reveal the design by safely exposing your treasure map to heat, most easily, a light bulb.
Draw your map with markers, crayons or pencils onto white paper or, for an antique appearance, on a plain brown paper bag. Mark North in a corner of the map.
Repeatedly roll and crumple the paper for a weatherbeaten look.
Burn the edges of the treasure map with a lit candle or a lighter. If you wish to burn holes in the treasure map, be ready to blow out the flames quickly so that you do not burn away portions of illustration you wish to keep.
Stain blotches of the treasure map by pressing a wet tea bag onto the paper or smearing it across portions of the map to attain a shipwrecked appearance.
