Loose-turning Wheel Mechanism
Test the tension on the springs when turning the wheel forward. Tighten the springs if they are loose on the "restricting dog arm" and if the gumball machine operates without coin insertion. If the wheel turns backward, remove the pointed gear disk, the handle, the screws, the metal-retaining plate and adjust the spring and "half-moon dog." The "safety pin" springs should push against the "half-moon dog;" this will lock against the coin wheel to prevent it from turning backwards.
Adjusting the Dispenser
Remove the screw-lock, cap, nut, retaining ring, glass globe, brush-off plate and gasket. Reset the wheel to dispense the number of gumballs you want. Tighten the adjustment; the brush-off plate must cover the product-dispensing chute in the main part of the machine.
Attach the Chute Door
Remove the screw-lock, cap, nut, retaining ring, dispensing wheel, glass globe, brush-off plate and gasket. Move the coin mechanism up about an inch and insert the chute door underneath. Lock the plastic tabs into their slots in the chute door and then replace all the parts.
"Free Spin" Conversion
Take apart the machine; remove the screw-lock, cap, nut, retaining ring, dispensing wheel, glass globe, brush-off plate and gasket. Remove the coin mechanism; place it on a flat surface with the coin slot and handle facing downward. Remove the screw, brass "dog arm" and retaining spring from the back of the unit; keep the coin mechanism parts in case you want to add them back in to the machine. Put the unit back together.
Tips
Review the machine diagram to determine the particular parts and their locations in the unit. If the gumball machine does not fit steadily on its stand, remove it from the base plate and tighten the adjustment screw. Reassemble the machine onto the stand. Clean the glass globe with warm water and mild soap; clean the front part of the coin plate with a dry cloth. Most parts are available for replacement by the manufacturer. The Carousel gumball machine is designed to accept pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters and several types of foreign coins.
