How to Install a Battery for MTH RailKing 4-8-4 with PS1

The RailKing 484 is a steam locomotive train featured in some of the RailKing products which may include a Proto-Sound 1, or PS1, chip. If the train begins to make distorted noises, this is either a sign that the battery needs charging or that the battery needs to be replaced. This train can either use a 9V alkaline battery or a special rechargeable battery which can be ordered directly from RailKing.

Instructions

    • 1

Determine whether the current battery needs to be replaced. To do this, put the engine in neutral and allow it to charge for about 15 minutes, if the distorted sounds are not reduced the battery needs to be replaced.

    • 2

Turn off the power. Carefully unhook the wires connected to the battery, making a note of where each wire connects.

    • 3

Lift the old battery out of place and dispose of it. Insert the new battery into the same place and connect the wires to the same points on the battery. If the battery is a rechargeable one, turn on the track power and leave the engine in neutral to begin charging.
