How to Put a Heat Sink on a Blade CX

The E-Flite Blade CX is a remote-controlled helicopter that features a four-channel, fully proportional FM transmitter, a 7.4-volt battery pack, high-speed control servos and dual "180" electric motors. Other design features include dual rotating rotors and instructional DVD video for beginner flyers. Installing a motor heat sink for your E-Flite Blade CX will extend the life of the electric motors and improve long-term performance. The heat sink installation process takes a few minutes, provided you have the correct tools.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the body from the helicopter and set it to the side. The body is secured to the chassis by a grommet on each side, near the rear of the helicopter.

    • 2

Hold the helicopter upside down and remove the two screws that secure the right-hand motor to the chassis, using an appropriate-size Phillips head screwdriver. The motor mount screws reside next to the smaller spur gear affixed to the motor shaft.

    • 3

Slide the motor from the chassis to make room for the heat sink. Apply liberal amounts of heat sink compound to the rounded mating surfaces of the heat sink.

    • 4

Install the heat sink flush with the left-side motor's cylindrical-shaped end-bell, towards the topside, below the power wires and with the larger finned side positioned towards the front of the helicopter.

    • 5

Reinstall the right-hand motor into the chassis and ensured the heat sink fits snugly between the two motors. Replace the body to finish the process.
