How to Set-Up Servos on RC Cars

Attaching servo motor controls to a remote control car can help you to make it spin and make sharp turns. The servo motor can be controlled by a remote control. This is possible by attaching the signal wire to the radio receiver found at the chassis of the RC car. The ground and positive wires are connected to the power supply. This is the basic principle of setting up servos on RC cars.

Things You'll Need

  • RC toy car
  • Servo motor
  • Wire stripper
  • Soldering iron
  • Soldering lead
  • Electric drill
  • Screws
  • Screwdriver
  • Battery pack
  • Connecting wires
  • Duct tape

Instructions

    • 1

Attach one of the wheels of the front of the RC car to the shaft of the servo motor. You can do this by drilling the servo motor horn and drilling through the mags of the wheel and securing them with a screw. This is only good for one wheel and one servo. You will need to do the same to the other wheel with another servo.

    • 2

Strip the ends of the connecting wires with a wire stripper. A distance of 1 inch is recommended.

    • 3

Connect the signal terminal via connecting wires of both servo motors to the radio receiver. They must be connected to the same terminal. This will ensure that both wheels turn at the same direction at the same time. Connect the positive and ground terminals to the battery pack. Secure the connections by soldering them and waiting for the solder to set and harden.

    • 4

Attach one servo motor to the pinion of the rack-and-pinion assembly of the RC car. You may need to drill the pinion hole to fit the shaft of the servo motor.

    • 5

Connect the signal wire via connecting wires of the servo motor to the radio receiver. Connect the ground and positive terminals by connecting the wire to the battery pack. Secure the connection by soldering them and waiting for the solder to set and harden. You can now use the servo remote to control the motors.
