How to Make a V6 LEGO Engine

Hardcore Lego builders are always looking for new challenges. A working model of a V6 engine may strike some as the perfect weekend project. The "Lego 858 Auto Engines" set includes parts and instructions for four different models of engines, including the V6. However, this set was released in 1980 as an "Expert Builder" kit and is very difficult to find. It will take a dedicated enthusiast to successfully track down the parts necessary to assemble this model.

  Acquire a Lego 858 set. While the 858 set is not distributed by Lego any longer, there are online vendors who still carry it in very limited supply, or Lego collectors selling their sets online. You can also try contacting local hobby and specialty toy stores. They may have an idea of where you can track one down.

  Read the instructions before building the set. The 858 kit includes 242 pieces and the building of this set comes in several stages. You may want to sort out your bricks and gears beforehand, dividing them up into groups based on which phase they are needed for. Having an idea of the process and being familiar with your pieces will make assembly much easier.

  Assemble the bricks as per the instruction kit. Work slowly and consult the guide as often as is necessary. Once all the bricks have been assembled, connect the rubber hoses. Turn the yellow handle to watch your engine in action.
