How to Tell If Your RC Heli Is Running Low on Power?

Radio controlled (RC) helicopters are powered by different sources. The newer ones and most commonly used are powered by electric batteries. The battery-powered RC helicopters can use nickel-metal hydride, or lithium polymer batteries. Knowing when your battery is running out is important. It's very important to land your helicopter before the battery runs out, so it does not crash out of the sky.

Instructions

    • 1

Read your manual for your helicopter and see how long it flies on one battery. Most RC helicopters fly around five to 10 minutes on a battery.

    • 2

Time your helicopter's flight time. Keep on an eye on your watch for how long you have been flying your helicopter. Land your helicopter at least two minutes before your battery will run out.

    • 3

Check for loss of power. Your helicopter will start going slower when its running out of battery. Once you lose up to 50 percent of your regular speed you should land it. This will only work for the older nickle-metal hydride batteries. This is the only way to tell if a battery is running low on power.
