How to Fold a Scooter When It's Stuck

Foldable scooters can be a convenient mode of transportation for commuters, or a fun activity for hobbyists. Smaller "Razor" style scooters can be propelled by either a small motor or with the rider's feet, and they fold down for ease of carrying when not in use. After a fair amount of usage, normal wear and tear may start to effect the hinges of the folding mechanism of the scooter. The causes of this degradation can be anything from opening the scooter too hard, to dirt and debris getting caught and building up in the hinge.

Instructions

    • 1

Examine the hinge at the base of the steering rod of the scooter. Use the clean towel to brush away excess dirt, mud or grime from the hinge. Size the bolt at the hinge and place the appropriate ratchet bit onto it.

    • 2

Attach the ratchet to the bit. Use a screwdriver to hold the hinge screw in place on the opposite side of the hinge. Slowly loosen the bolt of the hinge. Attempt to fold the drive rod down every two turns until it collapses, or the bolt comes loose.

    • 3

Clean around the bolt and on the inside of the hinge with the clean towel. Lift the rod up and down several times in between wipes of the towel to disperse any foreign agents. Re-tighten the bolt when the rod is in the folded position.
