How to Troubleshoot a Mattel I Can Play Guitar

Mattel's I Can Play Guitar is an easy-to-use toy that can be used to teach your child the basics of playing a guitar such as strumming. The guitar guides your child through a three-step process to learn simple songs. The toy connects to your television and features on-screen instructions. Ocassionally, you may experience issues with the guitar. You can troubleshoot many the most common issues before contacting Mattel's customer service.

Instructions

Remove and replace the batteries in the I Can Play Guitar if the guitar is not functioning. Ensure the batteries are correctly inserted.

    • 2

Remove and reinsert the software cartridge in the guitar if it does not work after it connected to your TV. The cartridge is correctly inserted when it clicks into place. Flip the "On/Off" switch to the "Off" position. Switch the switch back to "On" and test the guitar.

    • 3

Check the connections from the guitar to your TV if the sound is not working on the guitar. The white connector on the cable that accompanied the guitar should be plugged into the left "Audio In" jack on the TV. The red connector should be plugged into the right "Audio In" jack on the TV.

Set the TV to the proper channel if the screen does not change when you turn on the guitar. Depending on your TV, you may need to put the TV on AUX, LINE IN or INPUT.
