Determine whether your My Little Pony is an adult pony, unicorn or pegasus. Unicorns will have the obvious horn on their foreheads, and pegasuses will have small plastic wings built onto the body. Using an online resource such as Dream Valley: A Collector's Guide to My Little Pony, select adult pony, unicorn, pegasus or one of the other body type options listed to begin your search. If your My Little Pony is not one of the three basic types, it might also be a sea pony, butterfly wing pony or mermaid pony.
Identify the unique body characteristics of your pony once you have selected whether it is an adult pony, unicorn or pegasus. The easiest way to identify a specific pony is to find the symbol imprinted on its hips. In the Earth series of ponies, for example, the pony with a group of green shells on her hips is Seashell and the pony with a group of pink bows is Bow Tie. In some cases, your pony might be old enough that its identifying symbol has worn off. In these cases, use other distinguishing characteristics such as mane color, body color and stripes on the face or body to narrow your search.
Keep your My Little Pony boxes and inserts upon purchase. This is the easiest way to find the name of your pony if you or your child forget. The box will also guarantee that your pony is authentic and not a fake. Hasbro is the only company that makes My Little Pony. Make certain that the Hasbro name and logo is on the box.
