How to Cut Open Neon Glow Sticks

Neon glow sticks are used as a safety precaution during holidays such as Halloween and the 4th of July, so that children can be safely seen at night. While the material inside the neon glow stick is nontoxic, care should be taken not to ingest the liquid or get it in your eyes or nose. Once a glow stick is opened or activated, the glow affect will only last five to 12 hours before it fades out.

Things You'll Need

• Utility knife
• Container to hold glow stick liquid
• Rubber gloves

     Open the package wrapping and remove the neon glow stick.

     Cut a horizontal line across the cap end of the neon glow stick with the utility knife.

     Remove the cap carefully and pour the neon glow stick liquid into another container.
