How to Paint Your Han Solo Blaster

Between 1977 and 1983, the Star Wars movies presented the film world with an array of strange weapons. The movies introduced a new range of weaponry and took special care in cultivating futuristic yet believable designs. Besides the light-saber, Han Solo's laser blaster remains one of the most highly recognized weapons from the films. By paying special attention to the battle damage, the gauges and even the screw in the handle, you can transform a generic sci-fi blaster into an authentic replica of Han Solo's trusty sidearm.

Instructions

    • 1
Remove paint and blemishes with sandpaper.

Remove paint and blemishes with a fine-tooth (600 to 800 grit) piece of sandpaper. Clean the gun thoroughly with a cloth dipped in hot, soapy water.

    • 2
Spray the blaster with silver spray paint.

Apply three coats of paint primer to the weapon. Allow each coat to dry for at least two hours before applying another coat. Spray the blaster with silver spray paint once the third coat of primer is completely dry. Let the silver paint dry for at least two hours.

    • 3
Tape the handle, the emitter nozzle and the small rectangles on the side of the gun with masking tape.

Tape the handle, the emitter nozzle (the large drum on the end of the barrel) and the small rectangles on the side of the gun with masking tape. If your gun has an actual scope, tape the glass eye pieces.

    • 4

Spray the exposed parts of the gun (body, scope, trigger and the rest of the barrel) with three coats of semi-flat black paint. Let the paint dry for at least two hours between each coat.

    • 5

Tape the area of the gun that you just painted; remove the tape from the emitter nozzle and the rectangles. Leave the tape on the handle.

    • 6
Paint the insides of the rectangles with a fine tip paintbrush.

Paint the emitter nozzle with at least three coats of semi-flat silver spray paint. Spray a small amount of the semi-flat silver paint into a plastic cup, and use it to paint the insides of the rectangles with a fine tip paintbrush. Wait two hours for the paint to dry.

    • 7

Tape all of the parts of the gun except the handle and spray the handle grip with woodland brown spray paint. Let the handle to dry for at least two hours.

    • 8

Spray a small amount of the semi-flat black paint into a plastic cup, and use it to paint the inside grip screw with a fine tip brush. Let the screw dry for at least two hours. Remove all of the tape from the gun.

    • 9
Gently scuff off the paint in specific areas on the gun with a wire brush.

Gently scuff off the paint around the emitter nozzle, the ends of the scope, the attachments of the scope-mounting bracket and the fins of the power pack (the box in front of the trigger) with a wire brush until the silver paint shows through. This will give the blaster a "battle worn" look reminiscent of the movie.
