How to Fly an RC Helicopter Safely

Radio controlled toy helicopters are found now in many toy, hobby and novelty stores. These little helicopters are lightweight, often made of plastic and are made to fly indoors. Because they fly and buzz with quick and jerky movements, safety precautions need to be taken for safe operation. Follow a set of recommended safety procedures so you won't be saying "it was all fun and games until that happened."

Instructions

  1. Operating Your Helicopter

    • 1

Push the throttle controls all the way down when starting the helicopter. Stand five to 10 feet away when starting the helicopter. Keep this distance from the toy while flying it around the room. Keep the helicopter a minimum of five to 10 feet from other people and pets when flying the copter.

    • 2

Turn the helicopter off or disconnect the battery when making adjustments to rotor blades or tail blade pitch.

    • 3

Check to confirm all connections at rotor blades, tail blades and engine are tight and secure before each flight. A part that flies off the helicopter may cause injury.

    • 4

Do not fly the helicopter at head height. If by accident you lose control and the helicopter is at head height, cuts or eye damage may occur.

    • 5

Push the throttle hold switch to "On" when approaching a helicopter has crashed or a helicopter that has landed.
