Things You'll Need
Instructions
Remove the clothing from the porcelain doll and set it to the side. Anything that is capable of being taken off the doll should be put to the side so that the doll can be restored.
Visually inspect the doll to assess the condition. Inspect the cloth portions for any tears that will need to be repaired. Inspect the porcelain portions to see if any pieces are cracked or broken. Make note of the damage so you will know what repairs to make.
Repair any holes in the cloth portion of the doll. If it looks like the doll has lost some of the inner stuffing, push a small amount of cotton stuffing through the hole to replace what is missing. Use a needle and thread to stitch up the hole. Repeat this process on all holes that are found in the doll body.
Replace any broken porcelain. Cracked and broken porcelain is common with older dolls. Vintage replacement parts can be obtained from antique doll dealers, or cheaper reproduction parts can be purchased from any hobby or craft store. The porcelain components are attached to the body via a string, which must be cut and then tied to the replacement part.
Wash the remaining porcelain parts. Use a cotton swab dipped in isopropyl alcohol to clean the porcelain. This will allow you to scrub away any dirt or stains without damaging the finish of the porcelain.
Clean the doll's clothing and accessories. Handwash the clothing in a sink full of warm water, using regular dishwashing liquid for detergent. Rinse the clothing thoroughly and allow the items to air-dry before putting them back onto the porcelain doll. Be prepared to replace doll clothing that is damaged beyond repair.
