Get an old toy car. This will be the base of your robot car. You can use a remote-controlled toy car or just an ordinary one. Remove the chassis of the car so that only the base remains along with the wheels.
Buy a wireless remote control receiver and a couple of servo motors controllers for your robot car. These can be purchased from a hobby store.
Attach a nickel-cadmium battery pack on the bottom of the wheel base. These can be purchased at a hobby store for about $50, as of 2010. You can also find them on an old remote control car.
Attach the servo motors on each side of the car near top of the wheel base. Lock them in place using mounting brackets that can be purchased at a local hardware store.
Mount the receiver underneath the toy car near the servo motors. Secure it in place using mounting brackets.
Connect the wires from the servo motors to the remote control receiver and to the battery. One wire from each of the servo motors will be labeled "Battery" connect it by twisting the wires together to connect it to the battery. Then solder the other wire coming from each of the servomotors to the remote control receiver.
Turn on your remote control unit and try to run your mini robot car. You should be able to make it turn and spin by controlling the servo motors.
Decorate your robot using parts from old toys. You can use a strong adhesive to attach them.
