Things You'll Need
Instructions
Decide on the design you want for your balloon and sketch a colored version of it on sketch paper. Blow up the balloons you plan to engrave to equal sizes. Suspend and stabilize the balloons and pick one balloon as your design base balloon and set it aside in a separate work area.
Pour water and flour into a bowl and stir to mix. Mix the paste until it makes a thin custard like paste used for paper mache. Cut strips of newspaper to paper the balloon.
Apply the paste to both sides of the strips of newspaper individually using your paint brush. With wet hands apply each strip to the balloon separately in a pattern that crosses the strips slightly for a better hold. Smooth the strips out using your paint brush to remove air bubbles and wrinkles as these will change the shape of the mold you are creating.
Let dry the paper mache mold dry. Spray the mold a solid color, preferably white or some light color that you will be able to transfer your design to.
Use the stright pin to pop the balloon and cut out the stencil you have created using an sharp edged craft knife.
Position stencil on balloon and tape down lightly. Spray over the stencil with rubber paint and let dry. Place the next stencil layer and spray.
Continue to repeat this step until you finish painting in the design for your balloon. Use other rubber safe paints and craft materials and then let the paint dry.
