How to Start Nitro Engines

Remote control nitro cars are a more advanced version of remote control (RC) cars that work on batteries. The reason these cars are called nitro cars is because an ingredient in the fuel they use is nitromethane. Nitro cars can be sleek and fast machines used for racing, or tough off-road and rock -climbing cars. Building and operating remote control nitro cars is a hobby enjoyed by many RC enthusiasts. To get going with a nitro car, though, you must start it up.

Instructions

    • 1

Charge your glow ignitor for 12 hours before use. Make sure there are fresh AA batteries in both your transmitter and receiver's remote control. Check that the proper 20-30 percent nitro fuel is in your nitro car. Install and secure your nitro car's carburetor. Stand up the antenna wire on the receiver of your car.

    • 2

Turn on the transmitter in your hand-held remote control, and the receiver on your nitro car, before starting the car's engine.

    • 3

Prime the engine with fuel by putting your finger over the exhaust and pulling the cord a few times. You will know the engine has been primed when you see the fuel reach the carburetor.

    • 4

Insert the glow ignitor into the glow plug on your nitro car with one hand. Pull the starter with pulls that are short and quick with your free hand.
