How to Remove Glued Tires

Items such as RC cars and planes use a glue to attach the rims to the tires. When removing the tires or removing the rim from the tire, you must remove the glue as well. While glue-removing agents might work for this task, some chemicals are harsh on the RC tires or rims and might cause damage to the tire or rim instead. Boiling the tires will remove the glue without damaging the tire or rims.

Things You'll Need

Old pot
Stove
Cooking utensil
Wash cloth
Dish soap

Instructions

  Fill a large pot with water. The pot must be large enough to fill up and completely cover the RC tires.

  Turn on the stove, and wait until the water starts to boil.

  Place the glued tire into the water. Let the tire float and boil for 15 minutes.

  Flip the tire over using the cooking utensil---ideally, tongs or a spoon with holes in it. Let the other side boil for 15 more minutes. Alternatively, use the cooking utensil to hold the tire under the water, surrounding it with boiling water for 15 minutes and eliminating the need to flip it over.

  Remove the tire from the water with the utensil.

  Place the tire under running cool water or set it aside on a counter until the tire and rim have cooled. Remove the tire from the rim, and wash it using a wash cloth and basic dish soap or similar cleaning solution to remove the rest of the glue.
