Things You'll Need
Instructions
Place the freezer bag on the table and make dots to mark the corners of your sails. Make dots for both the larger upper section of the kite and the lower smaller section. Connect the dots using the felt- tipped pen. Do not connect the upper and lower sections. Make both sections individual trapezoid patterns creating the upper and lower half of a diamond shape. Flip the bag over onto its other side and draw over the lines that you can see through the bag.
Cut the edges of the bag off so you're able to open it and lay it flat. Do not cut along your lines during this step. Place the sticky tape along the lines you drew, making sure that each line is directly in the middle of the tape. Don't worry about overlapping the tape.
Cut along the lines perfectly until you have separated the two trapezoid-shaped pieces from the rest of the bag. The tape will have created a nice rim that reinforced the edges of both parts of the kite. Dispose of the rest of the freezer bag unless you plan to keep the material for future projects.
Place two of the poles vertically on the newly created sails, then place two poles horizontally. Match the poles up with the corners of the sails. They should create a tic-tac-toe pattern on the kite. Tape down the areas where the vertical and horizontal poles intersect with each other as well as the edges where the sails of the kite meet the poles. If the poles are too long for this, cut them down to the appropriate size. Bend the center of the upper horizontal pole upwards until it begins to make sounds as if it's going to crack, then glue it down. Bend the lower horizontal pole downwards, the left vertical to the left and the right vertical to the right. Glue each one down.
Tie one end of the kite string to the upper horizontal pole of the kite after all the glue has dried. If the kite string came with a spool included, you only have to tie one end of the string, but if it did not, you will have to use an empty spool and tie the kite string around it in loops. This will allow you to control the kite while it's sailing in the air.
Wait until the glue has dried to paint your kite if you choose. Do not use heavy paints as they can add too much weight for your kite to take flight.
