How to Sync a Non iPod to iTunes

iTunes is a program designed for and set up to be compatible with Apple products. As such, it will sync its music with iPods and iPhones, but it will not automatically recognize or sync its contents to another company's MP3 device. To sync a non-iPod device to iTunes, a few steps must be completed first.

Instructions

    • 1

Find third-party software that will allow you to sync your iPod to iTunes. For Windows users, a good third-party program is iTunes Agent. For Mac users, try iTunemyWalkman, which is similar to iTunes Agent but created for Mac systems. You can download both of these at Cnet.com.

Install the third-party software to your computer, and make sure to follow instructions to complete the process. Simply clicking the "Download" button will not complete the process. Until you have fully installed the program, your computer will not likely recognize the third-party software.

Sync your MP3 device to iTunes using your third-party software. When doing this for the first time, the program will automatically delete everything on the device, so be careful to back up anything on your device that you want to save. Simply choose the audio files in iTunes that you want to be placed on the device and drag and drop them onto the device. When you have completed this, hit sync and you will be ready to go.
