How to Display Uninflated Mylar Balloons

Mylar balloons, also called foil balloons, are made of polyethylene and nylon onto which an aluminum finish is painted. Additional metallic colors are then added to create intricate designs. Because the material is easier to work with than traditional latex balloons, Mylar balloons are often cut into shapes and characters. If you have uninflated Mylar balloons, you can display them on a wall to serve as decoration or to make them more visible to clients if you are selling them.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose a wall location that is free of other pictures, artwork and hanging items. Look for an area that is away from windows since sunlight will fade the coloring of the Mylar balloon. In addition, look for an area away from heating and cooling vents, which may cause the Mylar balloons to fall off of the wall.

    • 2

Place a step ladder near the wall and climb up on it to reach the location you want to hang the Mylar balloons. Choose a height that is slightly above eye level or higher.

    • 3

Wipe the surface of the wall with a clean, dry cloth to remove all dust particles from the surface, which may interfere with hanging the balloons.

    • 4

Place the Mylar balloon on a flat work surface so that the printed side is facing downward. If both sides are printed, choose the one without any scratches or visible marks.

    • 5

Tear off 2- to 3-inch pieces of double-sided tape and position the pieces 1/4-inch to 1/2-inch from the edge of the balloon. Continue until tape is around the entire perimeter of the balloon.

    • 6

Climb back up on the ladder and turn the tape side of the balloon toward the wall. Press the top part of the balloon against the wall with your hands and slowly move your hands downward to secure the remaining tape. Attaching the balloons from top to bottom prevents air pockets from forming.

    • 7

Hang additional Mylar balloons in the same manner, spacing each at equal distances apart.
