Things You'll Need
Instructions
Place the Lego base plate on the floor in front of you. The base plate, which will be removed later, allows you to set up Legos in a uniform fashion. The base plate measures 10 inches by 10 inches, or 32 rows of 32 studs each. Count out 60 of your favorite Lego blocks, which will create the outside of your Lego ball. Set them aside, sorted by color.
Place five Lego blocks, side by side and centered vertically along the left edge of the base plate. Move in one block to the right. Place a two-stud-wide block on the top and bottom. Move in again, one block to the right. Place another two-stud-wide block on the top and bottom.
Attach more blocks in this order to replicate the curve. Repeat the same pattern, beginning on the right side of the base plate. When complete, each side of the circle will contain five studs. Fill in the circular shape with Lego blocks. Use a different color of Lego blocks because this will be the inside of the ball.
Build a second layer using the same pattern, but make the layer one stud shorter around the circumference. Fill in the center of this layer with Lego blocks. Make a third layer, one stud smaller on all sides, than the layer below it. Continue until you can no longer add any more Legos.
Pull your hemisphere shape carefully off the base plate. Set it aside. You've completed one-half of your Lego Call.
Building the second hemisphere, starting with the top of the ball instead of the center. This time, grow the hemisphere from small to large, rather than large to small with the first hemisphere. Grow this hemisphere in the same sequential fashion, until your final layer is the same diameter of Legos as your first hemisphere. Follow the basic contours of the original hemisphere.
Remove your second hemisphere from the base plate. Line up the two hemispheres. Fit the blocks together, pressing the top half of the hemisphere until it locks securely in place.
