Easy Jump Rope Tricks

Jump ropes are affordable, portable and can be used by people of all ages. It strengthens muscles all over the body and also gets the heart pumping, making it a good form of cardiovascular activity. Jumping rope is also an extremely efficient calorie-burner: According to Leanna Skarnulis, a health expert for WebMD, 15-20 minutes with the jump rope can burn off the calories contained in a candy bar! While fancy footwork is not necessary to reap the benefits of jumping rope, jump rope tricks are a fun addition to the exercise.
  1. Jogging Step

    • This trick involves jogging in place while you're jumping rope. Turn the rope as usual and step over it with one foot as it passes your feet. On the next turn, use your other foot to step over the rope. Continue alternating your feet to do the jogging step.

    X-To-Straddle

    • This trick is an easy one for beginners to master. Turn the rope over your head as usual and on each jump, cross your legs before hitting the ground. For an extra challenge, try alternating the direction you cross your legs on each jump.

    Double Bounce

    • This is another very simple trick - simply bounce twice each time you turn the rope so that your feet are hitting the ground two times for each time the rope passes your feet.

    Heel-Toe

    • To do this trick, turn your jump rope and on your first jump, land with your toes touching the ground. On your next jump, land on the heel of your foot. Alternate landing on your heel and on your toes with each jump. This trick is also known as the boxers' skip.
