Technology moves quickly and, if you are attentive to the market, you can pick up the perfect technological gift for relatively little money. Buying secondhand or from online auction sites can be one way to pick up a tech gift cheaply, but there are also many new electronic gifts that can be bought for little money.

MP3 Player
- MP3 players can be an expensive purchase, but if you stay away from expensive brands, you can find a good quality MP3 player for less than $100. Where once cheap MP3 players had only a small amount of memory and few features, the competition in the market means you can now buy more for less. Some of these offer traditionally expensive features like video players which means that the tech fan you buy it for will have lots of fun filling it up with his favorite songs and video clips.
USB-Controlled Devices
- USB keys have come a long way since they started and now provide more than just memory-saving. On the more wacky end of the spectrum, you can now buy USB plug-in vacuum cleaners and items like a plasma ball and "Pet Rock" USB keys. All of these will set you back less than $20. On the more practical side, it is now possible to buy large memory USB keys on a keyring. Or, to add personality, why not buy a more unusual USB key? These include ones made to resemble Lego blocks, hamburgers and even severed fingers!
Spy Gadget
- For a more unusual gift, purchase a spy gadget for that tech lover. Many of these come for less than $100 and can provide hours of amusement. These might include tiny spy cameras, video cameras disguised as pens, and motion-activated video cameras. Also available is audio equipment or equipment such as voice changers which will keep the user busy and pleased for some time.
Video Games and Accessories
- It is no coincidence that many tech fans own at least one video game console--the small machines fit in a lot of technology. There are a wealth of attachments, accessories and games to buy for consoles that will fit into any budget. Last season games can be bought at reduced prices but it may be best to check with the recipient of the gift to avoid buying her a game she already owns. You can also buy practical equipment such as control pads, memory sticks and wireless headsets for the serious gamer. Most modern consoles also allow the owner to download content to the system so a gift-card for the relevant console's online store might also go down as a treat.
