How to Make Your Own Bouncy Ball Kit

Bouncy balls are a toy enjoyed by adults and children alike, around the world. They are made of a polybutadiene rubber and when thrown at a hard surface, bounce proportionally to the the amount of force used when thrown. Bouncy balls can be found in many toy vending machines, in different sizes and colors, however, if you want to make bouncy balls yourself, there are several simple steps that allow you to do so.

Things You'll Need

Liquid glass (sodium silicate solution)
Glass jar
Ethyl alcohol
Wooden stick
Plastic gloves

Instructions

  Gather all necessary materials; liquid glass can be purchased online from stores whose links can be found in the Resources section of this article.

  Pour in 20 milliliters of sodium silicate solution into the glass jar. Combine this solution with 5 milliliters of ethyl alcohol. Stir this mixture together with a disposable wooden stick.

  Put on your plastic gloves and remove the material from the glass jar into your hands; once stirred, the solution will be solid but will also crumble. Mold the material into the shape of a ball by rolling it between your palms for approximately 2 minutes. If the ball is not binding well, add a few drops of water as you mold it.

  Let the ball sit for an hour or so before use, once it is formed and solid. Now you have your own bouncy ball. Change the ingredients proportionally to make the size of the ball larger or smaller.
