How to Make Sling Shot Cannons

Slingshot cannons come in many shapes and sizes, from handheld to those that support enough weight to launch a boulder or a person. Simple in design, slingshot cannons require very few materials but enable hours of fun outdoors. From shooting rocks down by the river to launching people in carnival rides slingshot cannons are versatile and study enough to use over and over again.

Things You'll Need

2 large metal poles
2 bungee cords
Electric drill
PVC pipe, 1-inch
PVC pipe, 1/2-inch
PVC pipe strap, 1-inch
PVC cap, 1/2-inch
Wood post
PVC adhesive glue

Instructions

  Mount two metal poles into the ground about 4 feet apart. Make sure they are buried deep enough so they don't move around.

  Tie a bungee cord to either metal pole. Tape them to stay in place if necessary.

  Mount your wooden post directly in the middle of the two metal poles. Bury it deep enough so it doesn't shake loose.

  Mount your 1-inch PVC pipe on the top of the wooden post by centering it and placing the PVC pipe strap over it. Drill screws into both holes on the strap fastening down the PVC on the post.

  Glue the PVC cap onto one end of the 1/2-inch PVC pipe. Drill a hole on either side of the cap and hook the loose ends of the bungee cords into these holes.

  Slide the uncapped side of your 1/2-inch PVC into your mounted 1-inch PVC pipe. Pull back the 1/2-inch PVC pipe and fire. The 1/2-inch PVC pipe should remain inside the 1-inch PVC pipe throughout the whole firing process.
