How to Do an Ollie on a Fingerboard

A fingerboard is a miniature skateboard that is maneuvered by a person's middle and index fingers. These small skateboards are toys for some individuals. Others use fingerboards to practice and visualize tricks that can eventually be attempted on real skateboards. An ollie, one of the more fundamental tricks in skateboarding, is achieved when a skater uses his momentum to lift the skateboard up off the ground. The ollie must be landed flat on the surface, however, or else the trick is not complete.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the fingerboard on a flat table, counter or similar surface.

    • 2

Place the index finger of the hand you use to fingerboard onto the middle of the fingerboard deck. The finger should be perpendicular to the board.

    • 3

Place the middle finger of the same hand on the back of the fingerboard. Make sure the finger doesn't hang over the edge of the board.

    • 4

Move the board backward using both fingers. Doing so helps to gain the necessary speed for an ollie.

    • 5

Push down on the back of the fingerboard with your middle finger. The front of the board will rise. Allow the back of the fingerboard to touch the surface of the table or counter.

    • 6

Slide your middle finger quickly up the fingerboard immediately after the back of the board touches the table or counter. The fingerboard will gain height.

    • 7

Land the ollie by placing your index and middle fingers near their starting positions (middle and back of the board) on the fingerboard. The fingers do not need to be in the exact same spot as when you started, but they should be fairly close.
