What Kinds of Toys Do Kids Age 10-12 Like?

Buying interesting toys for 10- to 12-year-old kids can be a challenge. This is the age range affectionately known as "tweens," and they live up to the title. Young enough to still be excited about toys, but old enough to desire more challenging, and interesting play experiences, these pre-teens are fortunate enough to have some excellent options to choose from when picking out a plaything.

Bakugan
- Bakugan toys sprang onto the scene in 2008 as a result of a popular Japanese anime Cartoon Network show by the same name. These small action figures are transformed from large marbles and then played onto metal gate cards that allow them to snap into shape. Different types of Bakugan have different powers, abilities and point values. Popular as collectibles, game playing pieces and trading marbles, this toy line also features lots of accessories including carrying cases, shooters, board arenas and other figures.
  The original manual Bakugan game was developed by Sega Toys and Spin Masters. In June 2010, an beta electronic version of the game was released. Early data indicates that children are as enthusiastic about digital Bakugan as they are about the toys.
Snap Circuit Sets
- Snap circuit sets are as big a hit with parents of tweens as they are with the kids themselves. This educational toy allows kids to work on an endless variety of electronic projects. By following detailed instructions and snapping together color coded pieces, players can create doorbells, fans, alarms and flashlights and participate in many other electronic experiments.
  Each piece is marked by real electronic graphics, symbols and technology and the instructions teach what the pieces do and how to make different connections in simple, accessible language. Because the circuits go together simply with a snap, no soldering or other complicated equipment is necessary to learn how to build and operate electronic circuitry.
Mind Flex
- This fascinating toy was super hot in December 2010 with stores selling out of Mindflex as soon as they placed it on the shelves. The futuristic toy, which allows users to move a ball through an obstacle course using their brainwaves, continues to be a big hit.
  Mindflex uses a type of EEG technology to read the brain waves of a player while he concentrates on using his mind to move an object. The playing field can be designed in hundreds of different ways, so there are a variety of challenges to maneuver.
