Search for a PSP-compatible instant messaging program such as WLPM or PSP Messenger" (see Resources). Download the program and save it on your computer.
Unzip or extract your downloaded file by right-clicking it and clicking "Extract files..." or "Unzip files..." If you do not have a extracting program, use a search engine to search for a Winrar extraction program, such as UnrarX or WinRAR (see Resources). Download and install the program onto your computer.
Connect your PSP to your computer using the PSP USB cable. Click "Open folder to view files" when the AutoPlay window appears. If the AutoPlay window does not appear, open your "Start" menu and click "My Computer." Browse for your PSP drive and open it.
Click on the folder "PSP", then click on the folder "Common". Open your extracted PSP compatible instant messaging program folder on your desktop and you will find another folder inside (names will vary based on the program you have downloaded). If you downloaded "WLPM", your extracted folder name will be "WLPM-BETA BUILD 1.30" and the folder inside that contains the files for your instant messaging program will be called "WLMP".
Drag and drop the folder in your extracted PSP compatible instant messaging program folder into your "Common" folder on the PSP drive. If you are using "WLPM," drag the folder "WLPM" into the "Common" folder on your PSP drive.
Disconnect your PSP and open your Internet browser. Type "files:/psp/common/(folder name with no spaces)/screen.html" into your address bar (without quotes). Enter your username and password into the respective text boxes. Click the "Sign In" button to log onto MSN.
