Types
There are two main types of remote control cars: electric and nitro (gas) cars. These cars are again divided into two different grades. One of these is the toy grade and the other is the hobby grade. Professionals and hobbyists collect both kinds of cars. These cars are also available in ready-to-assemble kits and ready-to-run cars.
History of Remote Control Cars
RC Car Tips reports that the first RC cars were made in the mid-1960s. The engines of model airplanes were first used to power the RC cars. It was only in 1967 that the first remote control car kits were introduced. In the next decade, the technology began to be improved and electric-powered cars began to be developed.
Remote Control Car Racing
Remote control car racing is an integral part of the car collection. There are different kinds of racing events arranged all over the world. These include oval track racing, drag racing and off-road racing. In a typical remote control car race, a racing track which is one-tenth the length of a full-scale, 1/4-mile drag strip is created. The track measures about 132 feet. Lower-budget racing events are even sponsored in vacant parking lots.
Benefits of an RC Car Hobby
An RC car hobby is one of the most enjoyable ways of introducing yourself to the world of remote-controlled gadgets. Electric RC cars and trucks are quiet and can be easily operated inside your home, as well as on the driveway or backyard. This is one hobby that adults can share with children. Racing cars can be both exhilarating and competitive.
Considerations
The electric-powered RC cars need frequent battery recharges as they tend to drain the batteries very rapidly. Nitro-powered RC cars run on a fuel mixture that contains nitromethane and methanol. The nitro cars, however, are not usually available as ready-to-assemble kit models. The instructions for assembly may not always be very easy to understand, and often a car is incorrectly built due to incomplete or poorly written instructions.
