How to Make a Kids' Crown & Tiara

The costume of a little prince or princess is not complete without a crown or tiara. Prince and princess teas are a popular theme for children's birthday parties, and this project would be a good craft session activity for school-age children. The crown and tiara also make a great take-home gift for each child. The supplies for this project are easy to find at craft stores, where a wide variety of bead colors are available.

Instructions

  1. Make a Tiara

    • 1

Thread 21 pony beads on each pipe cleaner.

    • 2

Wrap one end of one beaded pipe cleaner around the headband, positioning the pipe cleaner wrap at the corner of the left eye if the headband were on the head.

    • 3

Bend the beaded pipe cleaner to form three arches, sectioning seven beads in each arch, ending at the right eye corner headband position. Wrap the pipe cleaner around the headband between the arches.

    • 4

Wrap one end of the second beaded pipe cleaner at the top of the first arch. Continue creating three arches of seven beads, connecting the pipe cleaner to the tops of the arches

    • 5

Add a dab of white glue to each pipe cleaner twist connection to secure.

    Make a Crown

    • 6

Measure the widest part of the head and use that measurement plus 1 inch for an aluminum foil strip cut 4 inches high.

    • 7

Cut one edge of the foil strip in a deep zigzag for the crown points.

    • 8

Glue pony beads on the crown at the point tips and along the bottom edge.

    • 9

Tape the long crown ends together using double-stick tape.
