How to Build Paper Cars

Fans of a particular type of car, such as NASCAR, Formula 1 or a particular make such as Jaguar, might want to display models of the cars they like. An enjoyable and quick way to obtain a model of a specific car is to cut out and assemble a paper version. Enthusiasts find these paper models on websites or in books and brochures. Some glue and a few minutes is all it takes to end up with a realistic model of any automobile. In addition, building paper cars is a hobby suitable for children or adults.

Instructions

    • 1

Download and print a paper car pattern from a website such as brusino.com or papertoys.com. Alternatively, you can find patterns in books or automobile brochures. In this case, pull the pattern out of the book and flatten.

    • 2

Study the pattern to make sure you understand how to assemble the model. Examine it for special instructions, whether in text or diagram form. Make sure you understand tips such as how to make the rear wing stand out from the car body.

    • 3

Add decoration and color to the pattern, if it does not already have color. Use paint, crayons, markers or colored pencils to enhance the model.

    • 4

Cut out the pattern. Make sure not to cut off the tabs, because you will use them in assembling the car model.

    • 5

Begin with the main body of the car model and bend it so that it starts to resemble a three-dimensional car shape. The tabs should meet under the model.

    • 6

Glue the tabs under the car to make the model hold its shape. Make any adjustments to the pattern to make the model look as realistic as possible. This may include partially bending the hood component or creasing the lines at the top of the body to flatten the roof.

    • 7

Attach other parts of the model, such as fenders or tires, in their proper positions if the model has more than one piece. Glue the tabs to keep the pieces in place. Once all the pieces are assembled, your paper car model is complete.
