How to Heat an Intex Pool

Intex pools are a way to beat the heat in the summertime by swimming in your own backyard. They are an option for people who don't want the added expense and upkeep of permanent pools, or for those who don't have room for a large pool. The downside to Intex pools is they don't come packaged with a heater. Since it's not pleasant to enter an ice-cold pool, sometimes Intex pool owners must figure out how to heat their pool.

Instructions

  1. Solar Covers

    • 1

Locate a pool supply store in your area. If you do not have any pool supply stores, try checking online stores by doing a search for "solar pool covers." A solar pool cover acts as a blanket over your pool and it absorbs the sun's heat and puts the heat in the water. It also doubles as a protective cover to keep debris out of your pool.

    • 2

Check you pool's size. This is important because this will tell you what size of a solar cover to get. For example, if you have an 18-inch metal frame pool, get the 18-inch solar cover. Obtain the solar cover from the store.

    • 3

Unpack the solar cover and place it on your pool. You might need to trim the edges so it fits properly. Leave the solar cover on your pool for one to two days, especially on the days when the sun is out. Check the pool after the solar cover has been on it. The water should be warm. After you are done using the pool for the day, be sure to put the solar cover back on as the solar cover will retain the warmness throughout the night as well.

    Solar Panel

    • 4

Check a pool supply store (a brick and mortar or online store) for a solar panel heating system. A solar panel heating system is similar to a solar pool cover in that it uses the sun's energy to heat the pool. This may be an ideal option for your pool because it will heat the pool faster than a solar cover would.

    • 5

Determine what type of solar panel and how many collectors you need depending on the size of your pool. Larger pools will require more than one collector to heat your pool.

    • 6

Follow the instructions to assemble and mount the panel and how the panel connects to the pool. Generally, the pool water filters through the panel and heats the water up, then puts it back into the pool. This maintains a steady flow of warm water into the pool.
