How to Paint Tech Deck Trucks

Fingerboards such as the Tech Deck series can be fully customized by owners. Everything from decals to grip tape can be altered to create your own deck to show off to friends. Among the customizable aspects of the Tech Deck are the trucks. The trucks, attached to the underside of your deck, hold the wheels in place. While trucks are too small to hold stickers, the silver pieces can be painted to match the rest of your deck's design.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert the ratchet end of the Tech Deck tool into the bolts holding the wheels onto the trucks. Rotate counter-clockwise to remove each of the wheels. Place the wheels with the screws.

    • 2

Insert the Phillips screwdriver end of the Tech Deck tool into one of the eight screws on the face of your deck. Rotate the tool counter-clockwise to remove the screw. Repeat for additional screws to remove the trucks from your deck. Place the screws off to the side.

    • 3

Lay down old newspaper or a drop cloth in a well-ventilated area. Place the trucks on the newspaper. Put on latex gloves to protect your hands from the paint.

    • 4

Open your jar of enamel or acrylic paint. Model paint can also be used on the trucks, which are made from die-cast metal.

    • 5

Dip your paintbrush into the paint. Grip the truck between two fingers and apply a light coat of paint around the truck. You can choose to use one or multiple colors for the piece. Don't paint the axles of the trucks.

    • 6

Place the truck onto the newspaper. Allow it to dry. Paint the second truck while the first truck dries.

    • 7

Add a second coat of paint to the first truck. Allow it to dry. Do the same for the second truck. Trucks should be fully colored after two coats.

    • 8

Reattach the trucks onto your deck. Place the wheels back on the axles. Run the deck back and forth across a smooth surface to ensure the deck rolls smoothly.
