How to Make a Tech Deck Better

Practice will help you become better at perofmring tricks on your Tech Deck fingerboards, but you can also improve your deck itself. By adding grip tape to the deck you will increase your control over the miniature skateboard, while adjusting the wheels and trucks will give your deck more freedom of movement. Customize these base attributes of your Tech Deck, and you will have a better deck to use while you perfect your tricks.

Instructions

  1. Grip Tape

    • 1

Scrape off any stickers located on the face of your Tech Deck. Use your fingernail to remove the majority of the sticker and a razor blade for any lingering parts.

    • 2

Peel the backing from the Tech Deck and place it onto the face of the board. Start in the center and press down on the grip tape, smoothing it out to the edges so the tape is flat on the deck.

    • 3

Run the flat end of scissors along the edge of your Tech Deck util a white outline forms on the grip tape.

    • 4

Cut the excess grip tape from the deck with a razor blade. Make sure no grip tape is hanging over the deck.

    • 5

Practice running tricks with the grip tape on your deck. The tape will keep your fingers in place, and you will have more control over the deck.

    Wheels

    • 6

Place the Tech Deck face down on a flat surface. The wheels should be facing up.

    • 7

Insert the ratchet side of your Tech Deck tool into the center of a wheel.

    • 8

Rotate the tool counterclockwise to loosen the nut holding the wheel in place or clockwise to tighten it. Repeat for the remaning wheels.

    • 9

Test out your deck running along a flat surface. Loosened wheels will give you more manueverability at the cost of precise movement, while tightented wheels will give you more control but less ability to shift the board.

    Trucks

    • 10

Place the Tech Deck face up onto a flat surface. Notice that the face of the board features eight small screws holding the trucks in place.

    • 11

Insert the screwdriver end of the Tech Deck tool into one of the screws and rotate it slightly. Rotate it counterclockwise to loosen the screw and clockwise to tighten it.

    • 12

Loosen or tighten the remaining screws on the trucks.

    • 13

Run your deck along a a flat surface. Notice that loosened trucks will cause your deck to wobble. Apply more pressure to shift the deck from left to right.TIghter trucks will form a more rigid deck, which is good for speed runs.
