Things You'll Need
Instructions
Pick a date. Look on the calendar for a beginning and ending date for the toy drive. Pick an ending date that is a week before you want to present the toys to the children. This gives any stragglers a chance to make a late donation for the toy drive.
Talk to the charity. Find out what toys the charity needs. They may only want infant toys, or they may request no large toys.
Make up the fliers. Using the computer's word processor, design a poster for your toy drive. Be sure to include all of the important information. Examples of relevant information may include donation beginning and end dates, box locations, what type of toys you are looking for, contact information for the person in charge, new or used toys and who the toy drive will benefit. Use a computer printer to print multiple copies.
Decorate the boxes. Using markers decorate one side of the box. Try using bright colors. Make sure that the words stand out on the box. Write where the toys will be going to in large letters. It is nice to write the words "thank you" on the box.
Pick a location for the donation boxes. Donation boxes should be located in a spot where many people will see them. School cafeterias and workplace break rooms both make excellent locations for a donation box. Talk to local store owners about placing a box at their store. The donation box should be in a secure area, so that the toys do not go missing.
Check on the boxes. Know the location of all of your boxes. Stop by and empty any boxes that are full. This should be done at least one or two times per week.
Collect the boxes. On the last day of the drive collect all of your boxes and final donations. Leave the fliers up for a few more days to try to get late donations.
