How to Sanitize Toys With Bleach

Sanitizing children's toys with bleach is an effective solution to prevent germs from spreading and to keep the toys clean. Because toddlers and infants place toys in their mouth, germs can easily spread to anyone else in the household. To keep your household healthy, sanitize toys in bleach after playtime.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Clean plastic toys with soap and water. Remove any visible dirt by thoroughly scrubbing each toy with a brush, reaching all crevices. The bleach solution will not properly sanitize the toys if they are dirty. Rinse off the toys under running water.

    • 2

Fill a gallon-sized bucket with hot water and add 1/4 cup of bleach. For a quart-sized container, add 1 tablespoon of bleach.

    • 3

Place the toys in the bucket. Let soak for 10 to 20 minutes.

    • 4

Take the toys out of the bucket and rinse each toy under cool, running water.

    • 5

Place the toys on a clean surface, such as a clean kitchen towel or dish rack, to air dry. Once the toys are dry, return them to the toy box or play area.
