How to Build Things for Your Tech Deck Fingerboard

Performing tricks with a Tech Deck, a toy skateboard that fits into the palm of your hand, is fun on a flat surface, and adding obstacles only increases your enjoyment. Like a real skate park, your Tech Deck skate park can feature ramps, rails, steps and even loops. Use these obstacles to stage tricks on or over, such as performing an ollie onto a rail and then kick-flipping down a flight of stairs. After building the obstacles for your Tech Deck skate park, arrange them in different ways to create the best trick lines to run through.

Instructions

  1. Stairs

    • 1

Measure the following pieces from a 1-inch-thick sheet of wood: 6 inches by 6 inches, 6-by-5 inches, 6-by-4 inches, 6-by-3 inches, 6-by-2 inches and 6 inches by 1 inch.

    • 2

Cut out the pieces from the wood using a hand saw. Sand the edges of each piece until they are smooth.

    • 3

Place the 6-by-6-inch piece of wood flat. Stack the 6-by-5-inch piece directly on top of it with one 6-inch side from each piece flush against each other, creating the first step. Glue the two pieces together with a thin layer of wood glue.

    • 4

Stack the other pieces onto the stairs in graduated fashion, with each piece measuring 1 inch shorter in width than the last. Spread a thin layer of wood glue on each piece of wood before laying the next piece down.

    • 5

Compress the glued pieces in a vise until the glue has dried. Remove the completed set of stairs and run your Tech Deck run up and down them.

    Ramp

    • 6

Lay an empty cereal box face down on a flat surface. Cut off the top flaps of the cereal box.

    • 7

Measure 3 inches in from each side of the box, starting at the open end. Draw a vertical line up the top face of the box at both points.

    • 8

Cut the box with scissors following the vertical lines. Do not remove any part of the box. When cut, a portion of the top face of the box will fall down to create a natural ramp. Apply a piece of tape at the end of the ramp to hold it in place.

    • 9

Paint the cereal box ramp to match the rest of your skate park.

    Rail

    • 10

Place one craft stick directly on top of another. Glue the two sticks together with wood glue. This will act as the rail.

    • 11

Cut six craft sticks in half using a pair of scissors.

    • 12

Build two stacks of six craft stick halves each. Glue the sticks in each stack together with wood glue.

    • 13

Rotate the craft stick rail so the side is facing upward. Glue each end of the rail to one of the stacks and wait for the rail to dry.

    • 14

Paint the rail with acrylic paint. For example, use silver paint for the rail and black paint for the support stacks. Allow the paint to fully dry.

    • 15

Position the rail in your skate park and grind across it with your Tech Decks.

    Loop

    • 16

Cut a 3-inch-wide plastic strip so that it measures 30 inches long. Use a plastic strip from an old set of vertical blinds, or purchase a section of plastic banding at a hardware store.

    • 17

Position one end of the strip onto the right corner of the 1-foot-square board. Mark two points on the end of the strip, one across from the other, with a pen.

    • 18

Poke through the holes with an ice pick and screw the strip into place through the holes using two small screws. The screws should not protrude from the plastic once they are in place.

    • 19

Fold the plastic strip up and over to to create a loop. Position the other end of the loop on the opposite corner of the wooden board.

    • 20

Create two holes in this end of the strip with the ice pick. Attach the strip using two small screws through the holes.

    • 21

Tape a 3-inch-wide piece of cardboard on each end of the loop. This will provide an incline for your deck to travel up when entering the loop.
