How to Make Magnetic Letter Tiles

Make your own magnetic letter tiles. Use the magnetic letters to teach words and to help with spelling, or to leave messages. The supplies for this project are available at hobby stores and online. You can test your magnetic letter tile on most metallic surfaces such as refrigerators, message boards and lockers.

Things You'll Need

  • Package of magnet sheets
  • Letter stickers, 2 x 2 inches

Instructions

    • 1

Use a ruler to measure 2 x 2 inch squares for the letter tiles. Draw lines on your magnet sheet (if you are using a sticky-sided magnet sheet, do this on the non-sticky side) with a pencil in a grid shape.

    • 2

Apply the stickers to the magnet sheet, carefully in rows.

    • 3

Make sure each letter is carefully in its magnetic square, and cut. Follow the lines as you begin cutting with the hobby knife or scissors. Cut around each letter.
Put the letter magnets on a fridge, metal board or other metallic surface as you cut them out. You can practice for a spelling bee if you use the metal board.
